| First Grade Proverbs... Here's something that I thought was really cute and interesting to read from another friend's blog, and thought I'd post it too :) A first grade teacher collected well-known proverbs. She gave each kid in the class the first half of the proverb, and asked them to fill in the rest. Here's what the kids came up with:
1/ Better to be safe than... punch a 5th grader. 2/ Strike while the... bug is close. 3/ It's always darkest before... daylight savings time. 4/ Never underestimate the power of... termites. 5/ You can lead a horse to water but... how? 6/ Don't bite the hand that... looks dirty. 7/ No news is... impossible. 8/ A miss is as good as a... Mr. 9/ You can't teach an old dog... math. 10/ If you lie down withgot off another website, and is a really cute re dogs, you... will stink in the morning. 11/ Love all, trust... me. 12/ The pen is mightier than... the pigs. 13/ An idle mind is... the best way to relax. 14/ Where there is smoke, there's... pollution. 15/ Happy is the bride who... gets all the presents. 16/ A penny saved is... not much. 17/ Two is company, three's... The Musketeers. 18/ None are so blind as... Helen Keller. 19/ Children should be seen and not... spanked or grounded. 20/ If at first you don't succeed... get new batteries. 21/ You get out of something what you... see pictured on the box. 22/ When the blind lead the blind... get out of the way. 23/ There is no fool like... Aunt Edie. 24/ Laugh and the whole world laughs with you. Cry and... you have to blow your nose.
...kids say the darnest things. =)

| It's been a while... I know it's been a while since I've written something, but this time I'm going to make a sincere attempt to maintain my xanga regularly (I can think of one person who might not believe it, but you have to, just watch! ). So it's officially been six months since I've been out of school - and it has definitely been one heck of a roller coaster ride. This year has been filled with so many new experiences, some great, and some not so great - it's honestly been the most defining year of my life. All these challenges that are thrown at you (not just in the workforce) can be overwhelming, but it's those same moments that have taught me to appreciate my family and friends, and to really count my blessings. On the one hand, I miss school because the student life was fun. Being able to wake up whenever, go to class, vent about profs, and all those spontaneous times with friends and classmates - they were really fun! I thought the real world was going to be a mean and scary place, but really, it's not so bad. Do I think university has prepared me for the real world? In some ways yes, but in many ways, no. It's just like a big classroom that you're thrown into, without any teachers, TA's, profs - and you're completely on your own. It's great because you learn your own way - but at the same time, making mistakes can have many more consequences than they did before. My brother started his first year this year, and as I watch him get excited to start a new chapter, watching him adapt to the new changes, it reminds me of what I was like at that age. Never thought I'd ever say this - but at 18 you are a young kid! lol And at 21, I'm still not sure if I'm mature or as much of an adult as I should be. All I know is, my life's adventures are only starting, and whatever happens, I'm thankful that I have a wonderful support system of people around me, who just want to see me happy :) Till next time, cheers! | | |
| So this week I started my summer placement as Junior Software Developer at Ernst and Young. I was soooo excited, because it's my first real entry to my career and an insight to what kind of a profession I've chosen for my life. My first day was great! I got to meet exciting new people, got my own laptop, phone line, cell phone and all these great perks, that I became even more and more anxious to get started on some real work. Because it was my first day, I was feeling great. Today being my second day, my morning was pretty easy going. My boss wasn't in for the day, so I was left to myself...so I spent the morning just reading up on some programming stuff.
But come afternoon...bam! what a change! it's times like these when you realize why a company like ernst and young is as big as it really is. I am gonnna be designing web pages for the Chartered Accountants website of Canada. WOW. I can't even begin to imaigne the pressure I've got coming up for that, but, at the same time, really excited that I get to do some pretty big stuff. I'm also going to be designing a tax calculator. Right now I'm feeling dead nervous..what if I screw up? What if the way that I program my stuff is nothing compared to the way these pros do it???? Somebody help me My supervisor just came and told me that he's setting up a meeting for me and the CICA (canadian institute of chartered accountants) head all ALONE. just me and that person!!!! holy shit!!!! talk about scared...oh well i guess i gotta get my feet wet at some point, right? here's to hoping that i'll be ok
till next time, cheers!
